What a Baba jacket is

Cotton, usually with texture or a subtle print, cut with no shoulder pad and no lining, sitting at hip length. It has the ease of a cardigan and the finish of a jacket. It goes over a t-shirt and jeans in the morning and over a dress at night, and it packs flat for a trip. The fabric softens with every wash, which is why customers who own one tend to own three.

Why it sells

Three reasons, and we hear them every week. It covers the arm and the hip without looking like it's trying to. It's comfortable in a way a blazer never is. And it works in an open, unbuttoned state, which is how most women over 50 actually wear a jacket. There is no size anxiety with a Baba: it's forgiving through the body, and the only fit point that matters is the shoulder.

Colours and reorders

Baba comes in seasonal colours and patterns, and the popular ones sell out. If you have a colour in mind, call (905) 627-1150. If you already own one and want the same style in a new colour, tell us and we'll check what's in and what's coming.

Fit notes

  • Buy to fit the shoulder; the body can be roomy.
  • Cotton relaxes. A slightly close fit on day one is right.
  • Judge it open, not buttoned, if that's how you'll wear it.
  • Wash cold, hang or low-tumble dry. It gets better.
