Lingerie and intimates

The department most shops gave up on

Bras, underwear, shapewear and sleepwear, in a shop where someone will actually help you find your size. We still carry Jockey. Not many do. Amarettos in Dundas kept a real intimates department when most independents gave it up, with Wonderbra and Bali bras, Body Hush shapewear and professional fittings done in the shop.

What's in the department

Why we kept this department

Many independent clothing shops have dropped intimates. It's a hard category to stock: many sizes, many styles, and every one of them has to be tried on. What's left, for a lot of women, is guessing at a size online and sending half of it back.

We kept it because our customers asked us to. A woman who has found a bra that works wants to buy the same one again, in a shop, from someone who knows which style she's talking about. That is most of what this department does.

How a visit goes

Tell us what you're wearing now and what's wrong with it. Straps slipping, band riding up, underwire digging, nothing under a t-shirt looks smooth. That's enough to start. We'll bring a few options to the fitting room, you'll try them, and we'll adjust from there. It usually takes twenty minutes. If you'd like a quieter time of day, call ahead and we'll suggest one.

Buying intimates for someone else

It's the hardest gift to get right and the one most appreciated when you do. The trick is not guessing: bring the label from a bra or brief she already wears, or take a photo of it. Brand, style name and size on that label tell us everything. More on buying for your mother.
