Jackets and outerwear

The jacket people drive to Dundas for

Baba cotton jackets are the thing we sell most of, year after year. Here's why, and what else hangs beside them. Amarettos in Dundas carries Baba's unstructured, hip-length cotton jackets alongside blazers, cardigans and seasonal coats, all chosen to go over what is already in your wardrobe.

Baba jackets

Baba makes cotton jackets and tunics with an unstructured, easy shape: no shoulder pads, no lining to fight, a fabric that softens with washing. They go over a t-shirt on a cool morning and over a dress in the evening. Most are cut generously through the body and sit at hip length, which is exactly the length that covers what most of our customers want covered.

They're our best seller for a simple reason: a woman buys one, wears it three days a week, and comes back for the next colour. If you already own one and want another, call and we'll tell you what colours are in today.

Blazers, cardigans and layers

A soft blazer from Soya Concept or an open cardigan does the same job as a Baba jacket with a different mood: a bit more polish for a lunch, a meeting or church. Longline cardigans are the piece we recommend most to anyone who runs cold indoors.

Seasonal coats

Fall and winter bring heavier outerwear into the shop: quilted and puffer styles, wool blends and rain shells, in the cuts that work for our customers (longer, roomier through the arm, easy closures). Selection is seasonal and changes every year, so the honest answer on "do you have a winter coat in my size" is a phone call in September or October.

Fit notes

  • Buy the jacket to fit the shoulder. Everything else can be roomy; the shoulder can't be wrong.
  • Check the sleeve with your arm bent. A sleeve that's right with the arm hanging can be short when you reach for a steering wheel.
  • Open jackets flatter. If you never plan to button it, don't judge it buttoned.
  • Cotton relaxes; wool doesn't. A cotton Baba can fit slightly close on day one. A wool coat should fit comfortably over a sweater in the shop.
