Jeans that fit, from two Montreal denim houses
Most of our denim comes from FDJ French Dressing and Carreli Jeans. Both have been making jeans for Canadian women for decades, and it shows in the fit.
Why these two labels
FDJ French Dressing is a Montreal company with, in its own words, "over forty years of expertise designing for women of all ages, shapes and sizes." It was early to put stretch into denim and it names its fits, so once you know you're an Olivia or a Suzanne or a Peggy, you can ask for it by name next season.
Carreli Jeans was founded in Montreal in 1989 by Daniel Abissidan and is still run by the family. Its signature style has sold more than a million pairs, which tells you the fit is not an accident.
What changes about jeans after 50
Not your taste. Your priorities. The jeans our customers keep coming back for share a few things:
- A higher rise. Sits at or near the natural waist, so nothing rolls down and nothing spills over.
- Real stretch, with recovery. Moves when you sit, then goes back to shape instead of bagging at the knee by lunch.
- A straight or gently tapered leg. Works with a flat, a low boot or a sandal without alteration.
- Pull-on options. FDJ makes them. No button, no zipper, a flat waistband that looks like a regular jean under a top.
- Colour that isn't only blue. Black, white, olive and seasonal colours come through both lines.
We wrote a longer piece on this: Jeans that fit, not fight.
Pants that aren't jeans
Both FDJ and Carreli make trousers in the same fits as their denim, in ponte, twill and lighter fabrics, so if you've found a jean that fits, the matching dress pant will fit too. We also bring in pull-on pants and seasonal styles from our other labels; ask what's in.
Try before you commit
Denim is the one category where the label size means the least. If you can, come in and try two fits side by side. If you can't, call (905) 627-1150 with the brand, fit name and size of a pair you already own and we'll tell you what we have that matches.
