Dresses, tops and tunics
From a summer maxi to the shirt dress you live in, and the tops that go with everything in between. Amarettos in Dundas carries everyday dresses, blouses and tunics from Papillon, Papa Fashions and Soya Concept, chosen for sleeves, a proper shoulder and fabric with some weight to it. We do not do wedding or formal wear.
Dresses
Our dresses are everyday dresses: printed maxis and midis, shirt dresses and knit dresses that go on in one motion and look finished with a sandal. Summer brings the lighter prints and shorter sleeves; the rest of the year is knits, longer sleeves and layers.
Things we look for in a dress for our customers: sleeves or at least a proper shoulder, a neckline that doesn't need a camisole, fabric with some weight so it hangs rather than clings, and a length that works with a low heel or a flat.
What we don't carry
We don't do wedding or formal wear. No bridal party dresses, no gowns, nothing for a black-tie evening. If that's what you're shopping for, say so when you call (905) 627-1150 or when you come in, and we'll point you to a shop that does it properly rather than sell you something that isn't right for the day.
Tops, blouses and tunics
Papa Fashions is where most of our tunics and easy tops come from: longer lengths that cover the hip, sleeves that cover the arm, and fabrics that wash well. Papillon brings colour and print, the blouse that makes a plain pant into an outfit. Soya Concept covers the Danish end of things: clean knits, cardigans, blouses and layers in muted colours that mix with each other.
Fit notes from the fitting room
- Tunic length matters more than size. A tunic that hits mid-hip on one woman hits the thigh on another. Try two lengths.
- Prints hide, solids show. If you love a solid colour top but feel exposed in it, wear it under an open jacket. Baba jackets exist for exactly this.
- Knits stretch with wear. Buy a knit dress or top to fit slightly close on the first try, not loose.
- Necklines and bras go together. A wide or low neckline needs a different bra than a crew neck. We can sort both in one visit; the bras page explains what we carry.
